Las Colchas October Newsletter
How are you? We have been busy and business has been good. This week is a little slow, but it usually is the week
or so before the Houston Market/Festival. Hope you get to go and have fun looking at all the new things being
offered this Fall. I will be going to Market to do the same. The wonderful weather we have been having in San
Antonio just adds to the fun of going as well as looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is just a great
time of the year!
I love quotes and I have been saving this one to share with you. The quote is by Judith Olney (you can see a mini
bio on Amazon). She said “One should be allowed to have as much sweetness as one can possibly want and hold.”
This seems to be especially meaningful at this time of the year. America is such an amazing place and we are truly
blessed to live here. As life gets busier (is that possible!!) in the next couple of months, please remember to
take some time for yourself. If you do, life will be so much sweeter.
We are bursting at the seams with the most beautiful fabrics from various designers and it is my hope you will come
in and buy a yard or two to add to your stash to jump-start a new project.
Don’t forget, we are the little shop that is tucked away and is so full of so many of those things that bring that
“sweetness” to your life.

Class schedule
October 22nd Friday Part two of the Bernina class taught by Dian Lamb. 10 to 2 pm.
October 23rd Saturday Grandma’s Playtime taught by Dian Lamb. 9:30 to 4:00 pm
October 26th Tuesday “Hot Cross
Buns”-A monthly get together to sit for two hours and
cross-stitch,
embroider, needle-punch, etc. with a cup of coffee and friends.
Join us! Not a class and there is no fee. 10 to
12 pm.
October 27th Wednesday
Sew-In! For a fee of $5.00, come spend the whole day at Las
Colchas working on
projects brought from home without those pesky interruptions. You may bring a lunch or go out to eat and come
back. A good way to finish those projects you need to get finished for possible Christmas gifts, etc. 9:30 to
4:30 pm
October 28th Thursday Folded Log
Cabin Class taught by Vickie from 10 to 1:30 pm. We will have beautiful
samples of this technique on Tuesday October 26th in many different color combinations.
Fee is $30.00 plus $5.00 kit fee. Call for details.
October 29th Friday Sew In Day!

November 1st Monday Denyse
Schmidt Improvisational Patchwork Workshop to be held in Boerne.
Information on
this workshop can be found on Denyse’s website www.dsquilts.com . The great news is that the fee for us in San
Antonio is only $215.00 and includes membership to the SA Modern Quilt Guild. Meetings for this guild are
presently held at Las Colchas on the first Thursday of the month and the third Saturday of each month. Back to
Denyse, she is very well known for her patterns, fabrics and quilts. She has been featured in numerous magazines
and her quilts have been shown all over the country. If you are ready to step out of your box, this is a workshop
you must not pass up! A great early Christmas gift to yourself! Call us or contact Jordan

November 11th Happy Veteran’s Day to all of you who have served our country so well. Thank you!!
November 11th
Thursday Vickie is teaching a wonderful
Paper Piecing Class. The block is a bowl of
apples that may be the start of a wall hanging that includes a scarecrow, a turkey and the words “Happy
Thanksgiving”. The cutest thing ever! The class is from 9:30 to 4:30 and the fee and supply information will be
available after this coming Tuesday. Call us if interested.
November 12th
Friday Wool Crazy Album Cover
taught by Carol Bayless. You may have seen the two beautiful
examples of this old fashioned technique. Carol does it so well and she can teach you to make an album cover that
will become a family heirloom.
Class fee is $75.00.
November 13th Saturday Maria’s groups am/pm
November 17th
Wednesday Wool Crazy
Gathering 12:30 to 4:30 No fee. If you would
like to join this
group, call or come in to see what we are doing.
November 18th
Thursday Jo’s Group from 10 to 1:00
pm. I hope to write a blog tomorrow with Tom’s help
and I will address what this group will be doing if anyone is still interested in joining. I thought I was going
to not do this group anymore, but I have now thought of a way to continue meeting and using these lovely fabrics in
a more relaxed way in which I am more comfortable and hope that those of you Jo Mortonites will agree. We will
talk later in the blog.
Tom Sittner promised we would write the blog tomorrow.
November 19th
Friday Another Folded Log Cabin
Class with Vickie. You really have to come in on Tuesday
to see why so many people have requested this class. It is really unique and can be make to reflect any taste in
fabrics. It can be sewn in Civil War, Batiks, Mod, etc., etc. Vickie and her husband, Mike, has designed a unique
way to display these pieces and they are more than perfect for many people that may be on your Christmas list.

10 t0 2:00pm.
November 25th Thursday HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
We, of course, will be closed on Thanksgiving and maybe the day after. Not sure yet.
