July, 2010
|
OK! OK! July is half over! You can’t laugh at me until you
walk in my shoes. That is the rule, right? I always heard
time goes even faster the older you get. I didn’t know how fast
“they” were talking about! I can only tell you that I try to
follow the five essential elements of life and happiness, and the one I
can promise I do close to 100% is that I do the very best I can.
No excuses. It is what it is.
We are passing the summer at Las Colchas making wonderful kits with
beautiful cotton cloth and wool and other fun things. I just
finished one of the very cute bags from the “Six in the City” bag
pattern. It was easy and is oh so pretty. Come in and see
it if you can.
Another fabric that is calling my name is the new “Cross Threads
Wovens” group from Moda Fabrics. The fabric is made by using two
different colors of thread (red/pink, green/yellow, teal/navy-----you
get the picture) so it looks like a solid, but changes hue as the light
changes. Napkins with a polka dot binding keep dancing around in
my mind. I am also thinking about a blouse I bought a pattern for
in Santa Fe this weekend. (Yes, I went to Santa Fe for the
weekend. Jealous?) I seem to remember these types of
fabrics from the late fifties in clothing. I said LATE
fifties. Sewing is coming, back by the way. Just in case
you haven’t heard.
We also have some romantic Christmas fabrics in, including a few bolts from the French General.
Calendar:
Thursday July 15th Jo’s Club (10am to 1pm)
Friday July 16th Stocking Stuffer Santa. (All day)
Cindy is teaching this class. Santa is made from wool and roving
and holds a bag for toys and a couple of wool Christmas
stockings. Santa is 20” tall. Class fee is $22.00 and a kit
is available. Not sure about the cost, but it will be reasonable.
Treat yourself to a fun class. Christmas will be here soon! Again, the time thing!
Saturday July 17th (9:30 to 4:30) Dian will be teaching the
painted bag again this Saturday. The previous painted bag classes
she has taught have had so much fun and I think they were all surprised
they could actually paint such beautiful flowers on fabric. Dian
is a great and patient teacher.
Class fee is $55.00 You will be empowered by learning this new skill.
Wednesday July 21st (12:30 to 4:30) Mujeres Locas I
would love for all of you to see the beautiful work these ladies are
doing in the two groups at the shop. I will try to post pictures on the
blog tonight of what one “mujer” has done. We still have the book
“Wool Crazy” along with wool bundles to get you started. You may
join us at any time. These two groups may go on forever. No
rules. No stress. Just fun.
Thursday July 22nd (10 to 12pm) Quilt Care and Restoration with
Carol Bayless. Carol is so knowledgeable about textiles and she
has chosen to teach this class for us. The class fee is $20.00
and Carol requests you bring an old quilt to share for
discussion.
Friday July 23rd Sew In Day Let us know if you want
to come in and spend the entire day sewing on projects you bring from
home for just $5.00. You will be surprised how much you can get
done when you sit and sew away from home! No cleaning, cooking,
washing or gardening to tempt you away from your sewing machine.
You can make some space in your sewing room by finishing up some of
those projects you started and never got back to finish.
Saturday July24th Jo’s Club (12 to 3pm).
Saturday July 31st (9:30 to 4pm) Wool Bag Class with Dian
Lamb. Dian will be teaching the beautiful wool bag that you may
have seen hanging in the shop. She has also brought a second
sample in black wool with red roses appliquéd on it. Many of you
have been waiting for this class and now is the time to call in and
sign up. Class fee is $55.00 and once you sign up, Dian will call
you and discuss supplies, etc.
Those are the classes scheduled for what is left of July. There
is still time to call and register for a place in your desired class.
Next month we will be offering some sessions that we are very excited
about. These sessions are to teach basic sewing skills for
clothing projects. Sewing is suddenly a new and exciting
hobby. It allows you to be creative and produce the clothing you
just can’t seem to find in the stores in the colors you want and the
prices you can afford. Sewing is fun! Dian Lamb who worked
with Bernina for 30 years will teach the sessions. Each
session will teach just one technique necessary for clothing
construction such as sewing in a zipper, pocket, waistband or
hem. So, be looking for those in the next newsletter or call the
shop for information.
If there area any classes you would like to see offered at Las Colchas,
feel free to call and let us know. We are always ready to offer
the information or products that you are interested in because we want
to provide you with what you need to fully enjoy the fun world of
sewing.
Have a great day and we hope to see you in the shop soon.
Francine
P.S. I hope to write a blog tonight. Check it out!
