Las Colchas May 2010 Newsletter
Well, I have my cup of coffee and Carol King’s new album of old songs
is playing in the background and I am ready to write each of you
to let you know what is happening at Las Colchas.
We are busy, busy, busy! That is what is happening.
Naturally, we have new fabrics, patterns and books. The cutest
patterns are from B. Bumble and Co. These will make the most
wonderful children’s quilts. Each reflects a child’s rhyme and is
so cheerful. We have three of her quilt samples at the shop so
come in and take a look at this set of three which will be here through
June.
I really want to get into our upcoming classes because I can never be
sure how long this quiet time will last and I do want to get this out
to all of you today. So grab a cup of coffee or some lemonade
(and put some crushed lavender like my friend Pat does) and relax while
you read this.
Tuesday May 18th—Dian Lamb is teaching a painted bag class. You
may have seen her demonstrating her technique during your visit at Shop
Hop. She promises it will be easy. We have three sample
bags at the shop. So choose your favorite bag pattern, sign up
for her class and jump in! The class is from 9:30 to 4:30 and the cost
is $55.00. A supply list is available when you sign up.
Wednesday May 19th—Mujeres Locas meet to sew on their wool
blocks. I picked the right name for this group! We have so
much fun sewing and laughing and sharing. You may join this group
at any time. Call for more info. Group meets from 12:30 to 4:30
(mas o menos).
Thursday May 20th—Jo’s Group meets to work on their small quilts
designed by Jo. This is another group that can be joined at any
time. Lovely women making lovely quilts.
Meets from 10 to l.
Friday May 21st—Embroidery class with Francine. Basic information
to get you ready to embroider and simple stitches that everyone needs
to know before moving on to greater things. Practice, practice,
practice! Class is from 1:00 until the cows come home. Only
room for one or two more.
Saturday May 22nd—Jo’s group meets from 12 to 3. Different group:
same goal.
Thursday May 27th—From 10 to 12, Jean will teach how to make a writing
case which will be that perfect gift for teachers, the wonderful girl
that “colors” your hair
and your special friend who is always forgetting things (she needs to
write everything down, for goodness sake!). Cost is $22.00.
You will need 2 fat quarters that like each other.
Thursday May 27th—Jeanne will teach her apron class from 1 to 3.
This is another great gift for most anyone you need a gift for in your
life. We have kits for this one. Cost of class is $22.00.
Friday May 28th—Something new for us is that we are now offering
“Sew-In” days during the month. You and your friends may sign up
for one of these scheduled days and for $5.00 you may come in and sew
in our classroom for the entire work day on a project you have brought
from home! The benefit is that there will be no interruptions
such as the phone ringing or putting a “quick” load of wash in or any
of the other hundred things that distract you at home. So, pick a
day, pack a lunch and bring in one of those UFOs and come have a
therapy day. Don’t forget the $5.00!

$7.50.
Don’t forget to pick up your Civil War Quilt Block Kits. The May kits
are ready.
We are building up our wool collection. New wool in new colors
should be here the middle of next week. I also ordered Valdani
threads in variegated colors and they should be in about the same time.
I hope you have had a chance to visit our web-site. Tom Sittner
has been working very hard on making it current and fun. He is
doing a great job! He is also helping us with the e-mailing of
reminders, post cards and newsletters. The amount of time and
hard work is tremendous. One goal almost completed.
Another goal of mine is to have a really fun blog to go to when you
need a creative break in your day. This is also something that
will take a little time for me to learn to do. I ask for more of
your patience until I can get it started. One of the problems has
been that we were short of staff for various reasons. We now have
a new staff member. Her name is Vickie Owen. Please stop by
and meet her on Tuesdays or Wednesday. Our Cindy has added a day
to her schedule and the rest of us are adjusting to the new schedules
which allow us to take a breath and relax just a little.
Speaking of relaxing, Tom (Castillo) has built us a wonderful deck in
the back yard of the shop. Plans are to have some small classes
out there when the weather permits. We can also go out there to
have lunch, a cup of coffee or just take a break when needed. He
has added many things to the shop which may not have been noticed by
our customers, but staff appreciates the changes. Thank you, Tom.
We would all like to thank you for your participation in Shop Hop this
year. We had a great time and hope you did too.
Come by the shop to see new “stuff” and samples or just to say
hi. I hope to send another message soon.
Hasta luego,
Francine

be happy.”
